India Commissions 7th Project 11356 frigate – INS Tushil

India and Russia reinforced their strategic partnership on Monday with the commissioning of INS Tushil, a stealth-guided missile frigate, into the Indian Navy at a ceremony in Kaliningrad. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the ship as a testament to the collaborative strength of Indian and Russian industries and India’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).

INS Tushil is a Project 1135 modified Krivak III class frigate.Of these, six are currently in operation: three Talwar class ships, constructed at the Baltiysky shipyard in St. Petersburg, and three Teg class follow-on ships, constructed at the Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad. Ukraine’s Zorya Nashproekt provides the engines for all Krivak frigates.

INS Tushil is an upgraded Krivak III class frigate of Project 1135.6, of which six are already in service. INS Tushil, seventh in series, is the first of the two upgraded additional follow-on ships, the contract for which was signed in Oct 2016.

The commissioned ceremony was attended by Russian Deputy Minister of Defence Alexander Vasilyevich Fomin and Ambassador of India to Russia Vinay Kumar and Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi included a joint Guard of Honour and the symbolic transfer of command.

The Indian Naval Chief praised Russians’ ongoing support for the military modernizations and new technologies. He emphasized that this partnership is built on mutual trust and shared values, with ongoing technical and operational collaboration continuously reaching new heights under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin.
